Legal
Privacy
Policy.
Your voice is yours. At Klar, privacy is not a feature we add on top — it is the core foundation of how our voice-first writing assistant is built. This Privacy Policy explains transparently how personal data is processed when you use the Klar application for iOS and macOS, as well as our website at useklar.online.
1. Data Controller.
The Data Controller responsible for processing your data under applicable data protection laws (including the General Data Protection Regulation / GDPR) is:
Jakub Mieczkowski
Email: klarsupport@gmail.com
2. Core Principle: Zero Retention of Audio & Dictations.
We believe your thoughts, spoken words, and written text should remain private to you.
- No Audio Storage: We do not store, archive, or retain your audio recordings on our servers or third-party servers after dictation processing is finished.
- No Text Storage: Transcribed and processed text is returned directly to your device and is not saved on any remote database.
- No AI Model Training: Your voice recordings and text inputs are never used to train, retrain, or improve artificial intelligence models.
3. Information We Process & How We Use It.
A. Audio Data & Text Processing
When you speak or dictate audio in Klar, your audio input is securely transmitted over TLS-encrypted connections to our AI processing sub-processor, OpenAI, LLC, to convert speech to text and format the output according to your selected style. The audio and text are processed in-memory (transiently) and immediately discarded. Data sent via OpenAI API is subject to OpenAI's Business & API Terms, which prohibit using API data for model training.
B. User Account Information (Optional)
You can use Klar without creating an account. If you choose to sign in, Klar uses Sign in with Apple. Apple provides an anonymized user identifier and (optionally) a relay email address to authenticate your session across your devices.
C. Subscriptions & Payment Data
Klar Pro purchases are processed by Apple (on iPhone) or by Stripe (on Mac, via our web checkout). Klar does not collect or store your payment card details, billing address, or financial data — these are handled directly by Apple or Stripe. We utilize RevenueCat, Inc. to manage subscription entitlements and verify your active subscription status across your devices.
D. Website Visitor Data
Our website (useklar.online) is a privacy-first static website. We do not set tracking cookies, use advertising identifiers, or run third-party web analytics tools (such as Google Analytics).
E. Application Telemetry
Klar does not collect telemetry, usage metrics, or crash reporting data through third-party tracking SDKs.
4. Third-Party Service Providers (Sub-processors).
To deliver our service, we rely on trusted service providers that strictly process data on our behalf under compliant data processing agreements:
- OpenAI, LLC: Speech recognition and natural language processing API. Privacy Policy: openai.com/privacy.
- RevenueCat, Inc.: Subscription management across mobile and web. Privacy Policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.
- Stripe, Inc.: Payment processing for Mac (web) purchases. Privacy Policy: stripe.com/privacy.
- Apple Inc.: App distribution, authentication, and in-app purchase processing. Privacy Policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.
5. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR).
Under EU/EEA data protection laws, we process personal data based on the following legal grounds:
- Performance of a Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): To process your speech/audio into text upon request and manage your Klar Pro subscription.
- Legitimate Interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): To maintain service security, prevent fraud, and handle user support inquiries.
6. International Data Transfers.
Where data is processed outside the European Economic Area (EEA), such as by service providers based in the United States, processing takes place under valid transfer mechanisms, including the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission.
7. Your Data Protection Rights.
Under applicable laws (including GDPR and regional privacy laws), you have the right to:
- Request information about how your personal data is processed.
- Request access to, rectification of, or erasure of your personal data.
- Request restriction of processing or object to processing.
- Exercise data portability where applicable.
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (e.g. Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych in Poland or your local EU Data Protection Authority).
Since Klar does not retain audio or dictation text, most processing occurs transiently in real time. To exercise any remaining rights, contact us at klarsupport@gmail.com.
8. Data Security.
All communications between the Klar app, our API infrastructure, and third-party processing endpoints are protected using standard TLS/HTTPS transport encryption.
9. Children’s Privacy.
Klar is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Union), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to This Policy.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
